“Farming is an ever evolving Industry but at its core, it is man working the land.”

In the summer months, country shows and Steam Fairs all over the country draw visitors in to gaze upon the history of British Agriculture- alongside the new modern giants.  Sue’s paintings have evolved and the new giants of the land, Massey Fergusons, John Deeres and New Hollands are well represented.

Modern farm machinery is impacting on our countryside as never before. Old barns are utilised as modern work places ‘with a view’. Ponds are filled in and hedges bulldozed out. Some of the pictures are a reminder of the farming from the past. The farming revolution moved so fast that the changes we see today could not have been imaged a couple of generations ago. 

As Sue’s painting subjects have widened, many shops, Post Offices, and Stores now stock her cards. Customers reflect many backgrounds, not just farming and accordingly, Sue paints local views, wildlife, dogs and domestic animals – along with trains, classic vehicles and villages. 

Most of Sue’s early work was of her first love, horses then years of pet portraits followed. The first tractor she painted, the grey Ferguson, opened up a new direction. Having grown up in the country, the knowledge was there, waiting to be painted: work-a-day scenes (with plenty of mud!),  the backdrop of English farm buildings which have seen generations of workers, the horseman of old, the transition of tractors and finally,  today’s giants.

The little Grey Fergie has evolved and has lots of mighty big cousins but the old and now vintage tractors, will always have a place.
